Bone Couture

This collection began with a trip up the West Coast of South Africa to see the spring flowers. On one of the days Anna found a tiny, fragile Bokmakierie (bush shrike) carcass on the side of the road. After preserving its skin, feathers and skull, shell was inspired to use them in a new jewellery range.

Anna soon felt that the collection required something more. The Cape Town Snake Park very generously offered her two dead snakes and shell chose to use the skeleton of the Albino Sonoran Gopher, indigenous to the West Coast of America as further inspiration.

Bone Couture is a striking and unusual range. Moulding and wax modelling techniques were used to recreate the skeletal forms in metal. Thereafter, silver, chain, brass and gold  plated components were added.
